I think they’re aware that making a game based on real wars, events and deaths is quite a strange thing to do and they feel they have to add in “NB. This is bad in a way”. Which if anything is more jarring.

Having played Call of Duty the makers are clearly aware that it’s weird. That’s why whenever you die they put up a quote about how shit war is and have the character voiced by a major actor get killed.
