"Write first, edit later" is popular advice for writers. But does it work for you? My thoughts on toggling between writing and editing while in the zone. I call it "wrediting." Catchy, no? andrewcareaga.com/2025/09/04/o...

Saddened to learn of the recent passing of my friend and longtime Missouri S&T colleague Tom Shipley, of Brewer and Shipley fame. Tom and his partner Michael Brewer became counterculture icons with their 1970 hit “One Toke Over the Line.” Photo: me with Tom & Jan Shipley at my retirement reception.

What is the purpose of art?
#writingcommunity
Terrific quote from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s author’s note of her novel “Dream Count”: “The point of art is to look at our world and be moved by it, and then to engage in a series of attempts at clearly seeing that world, interpreting it, questioning it. In all these forms of engagement, a kind of purity of purpose must prevail. It cannot be a gimmick, it must at some level be true. Only then can we reach reflection, illumination, and finally, hopefully, epiphany.”
