SELECTS THE BEST
MYSTERY STORIES FROM THE PAST YEAR
From over 3,000 considered stories published in the past year, this anthology contains the twenty best, selected by #1 New York Times bestselling author John Grisham under the auspices of New York City's legendary crime fiction specialty store The Mysterious Bookshop. Included are tales of suspense, detection, and puzzlement that illuminate the diversity of styles contained under the "mystery" umbrella. There's something for everyone in this celebrated anthology, now in its fifth year, which continues to dazzle with the breadth of its selection and which draws from sources as disparate as Black Cat Weekly, Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, and Conjunctions.
Plus, it's all capped off with an additional "bonus story" from an earlier era, sourced from the bookshop's rare book room.

What’s the word where you’re from that, when pronounced exactly as it looks, identifies a tourist immediately?

It’s heeeeeere. If you like spooky movies, campy 80s slashers, and getting a detailed history of film studios and the industry, check out my Witching Hour video essay on one of my favorites - 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street - and how it changed film history. Link in comments!

I swear half of writing is looking at a draft of what was once an irresitible idea -- and asking... "is this anything?"

I was able to connect with authors I greatly admire and find readers for my dumb little stories. So grateful.

While I’ve since seen SPEED a number of times theatrically, my first time was at home when it premiered on HBO in May of 1995 and nothing could’ve primed me better for it than the old HBO First Look featurette hosted by Dennis Hopper himself.

I deeply appreciated the chance to write a gnarly little mystery set on Capri, complete with a dead fashion mogul, a shipwreck, and an annoying little dog! #amwriting #mystery

The cover for Street Puppy, Masjid Cat by Moniza Hossain, illustrated by Wastana Haikal which features an illustration of a black and white cat walking along a fence in front of a mosque. The cat has its head tilted and looks down at the sidewalk where a reddish-orange and black dog stands with its tongue hanging out and ears perked.

Sure, we make fun of Gen A’s love of brain rot. But we have grown-ass pundits pontificating on TV every day about whether it’s okay for the President to send the military after US citizens.

You ever think about how there were dudes that probably saw loads of combat in WWII and then 20-odd years later were playing henchmen on BATMAN
