I don't understand why MLK is almost always referred to as MLK Jr. I feel like "Jr." is only relevant when the father is equally or more famous. Nobody refers to Biden as Joe Biden Jr., or Bill Gates as Bill Gates the Third, even though Bill Gates II is the Gates of K&L Gates.

there are a bunch of structural reasons for this, including that UK media doesn't pretend its not politicized, that the BBC enjoys a level of automatic and unassailable access, and that UK political journalism isn't up itself but is acknowledged to be grubby and gossipy.
