The lens of humanity is a prism whereby most opinions can be understood if you realize they are just different shades coming from the same source of light.

‘Cleave’ can refer to splitting something apart.

‘Cleave’ can also refer to the uniting of two things.

…what?

A word that is also its own opposite is called a ‘contronym.’

Remember when all those 2nd amendment people defended their “right” on the basis of its need to overthrow and defend against a corrupt gov’t?

Yeah, I don’t ever want to hear that argument again.

Happy New Year everyone! Hoping it is the best year ever, for all!

On occasion, I get asked what my New Year’s resolutions are. I don’t have any! Ever…

If something is worth resolving to do better on, I don’t wait until the New Year to do it.

Is that just me?

Things were a bit greasy on the roads yesterday, but no significant issues beyond the usual Winter highway caution need.

We got here around 6:30 and I started with plowing the 10”-12” (25-30 cm) of snow from the driveway - a big job!

Then settled in to the latest episode of Oak Island. Spoiler

I’m cautious not to mention the “C word” too often these days, because I think most people are burned out and/or have an immediate negative reaction due to our experiences going through it. But it is worthwhile to share what we do know now in hindsight. At least then, we can make an informed choice.

Haven’t had a lot of time to head out to the lake this Winter yet, which is why I’m really looking forward to heading there later today!

New Year’s Eve traditions, we won’t be missing ringing it in by the fireplace, a Scotch or two, the peace, quite, and scenery. Maybe some astrophotography too?

Another first! We had a new visitor at the cottage Christmas Eve, I believe it’s a marten? It dove under the snow and came up with a vole. Always exciting to see an animal we haven’t seen there before! 🙂

I still think that one of the solutions to excessive wealth is to limit the maximum inheritance any siblings gets to…say…a $15M cap. The rest to fund healthcare, education, and public services.

If someone thinks that amount isn’t setting your children up enough to succeed…man, are you out of touch.

One of my favourite comments from our holiday celebration this year was listening to the kids describe the Fallout New Vegas character Mr. House to a non-player of the game.

"He's basically Elon Musk, if Musk actually was smart."

There's definitely hope for our children.

The tree was up early, but the decorations are still happening. But it IS feeling like Christmas around here! 🤶🎅

Last night I was dreaming of a white Christmas. Turns out, it was more a nightmare.

I think this blizzard was misrepresented. My app has been calling it since last night, it was into the SW corner today - that was the hype. But it was never supposed to hit Winnipeg until 9-10PM, peaking overnight around 1-5AM range with the winds and 15+cm predicted by late morning. We shall see.
December 18, 2025 at 3:23 AM
Well according to my app, there is a plus side.

Did a dog walk in La Barriere Park this afternoon. That wind bit hard! 🥶

A quote in today's Wpg Free Press: "The government has wasted almost $18 billion on debt interest payments since 2016. That's enough money to build a Princess Auto Stadium and then burn it down and rebuild it again another 85 times."

And yet one individual can do that by themself in over 27 cities.

Who here remembers The Bay’s window dressings, or going up to the 5th floor to visit Santa in his full-sized Christas Gingerbread house? The smell of ginger when the elevator doors opened, and it was the scent of Christmas!

Christmas memories… ❤️
There was a time when one of the favourite events for families during the Christmas season was visiting store window displays.
While many stores did this, Eaton's and Simpson's in Toronto took it to another level each Christmas.
This is the story!

The train was 42 minutes late, a break in the tracks this side of Kenora delayed it. But that didnt stop the ~1000 Winnipeggers from waiting in the -22C temps from anticipating its arrival!

Now, it's onward, outward ho-ho-ho!
