Yeh ILM did the VFX for the first 4 Trek films iirc
they did a ton of explosions for SW with a "high speed" camera on the floor pointing upwards and then they would detonate an explosion against a bluescreen so the falling debris would look like it was expanding outwards

I think this was a stock explosion sequence, and I THINK it was done for SW originally, i will have to go and dig through my old 3D assetts to see if i still have the library and if that explosion is with them
