Vaguely contemplating just popping one of my more complete WIPs as is on SH.

So while my wife's doing her course I've been writing. I've got 4 WIPs, one of which I'd not touched for a while.

Well, it's the closet to done, and in celebration of the fact that NaNoWriMo is how I started LUU, I've decided to work on this story and see if I can't get it finished.

So my wife is doing a course again... Which means editing's on hold. Sorry y'all.

My editor got back to me with Chapter 27 tonight - and so...here's Chapter 27: Disappointment Reigns.

Lies Unmake Us
Charlotte Jones has gone to a lot of trouble to create an authentically cis identity. Not even her long time girlfriend, Jess, knows her past. She's been keeping a low profile, working at her friend’s...

Just fyi folks, I haven't stopped (or ain't dead, or abducted by ICE, which y'know non-zero possibility these days). My wife's just been super busy and so hasn't had a chance to proof for me.

I also have been super busy both with writing projects, but also with a huge lift of a non-writing thing.

I assumed I'd mostly write thrillers because that's historically what I've read the most. And it's where I started. But since then I've started a sci-fi project, a dystopian future project, and a kinda slice of life random thing. So, really it's whatever takes my fancy.
#pretendpanel, continuing on our reader/writer topic, I'm going to ask a question that I will struggle to answer... I'm so bad at picking favourites!

August 8th: Do you have favourite genres to read and/or write?

Oh hey Anesha. How's that first draft of that fun story you were talking about going?

Oh... Yeah. Fun. Yeah. It's, um, going fine...

I need two of me: One of me to have great ideas in the shower at 1000 at night, and the other of me, who's slept all day, to actually write them.

As opposed to the current situation where I have ideas, and either stay up far too late, or write notes that get forgotten.

I have a stupid cold which is annoying the pants of me, but I've thrown 600+ words into my WIP today, and now it's nap time.

Folks, Victoria Scott is awesome and you should buy her book.

Technically books, but one's out of print.
I took a new author photo and I like this one a lot

I really should do another round of queries while I'm waiting for my wife to get better enough to start proofing again.

Okay, I'm going to take this opportunity to discuss something that *really* bothers me about this general epistemic anxiety in trans spaces.

Namely, this unstated idea that the hypervisibility of trans women is something that confers on us a responsibility to highlight transmasc issues more.
My brother in synthetic hormones, you can write your own threads, trans women are not stopping you from saying what's on your mind, not denying you your voice

fakeminsk’s Who Made the Lamb is like if someone decided to tackle the old bad-boy-to-good-girl thing but make it, like, good

probably because that’s exactly what it is

I have a lot of...imposter syndrome around writing. I worry that it's not good, that I'm not a real writer because [insert insecure excuse about my route to writing], that what I write doesn't have the resonance or impact of other (in my head) better writers.

So my friend's response was reassuring.

Doing a little bit of evening writing. I should be showering... well, actually I should be in bed. Neither of those things is apparently happening just yet.

If you’re not throwing in the tiniest little references to your friends and authors you wish you were as good as what are you even doing?
a fun fact: the story is set at the location of a real-world arcade, though I have fictionalized the name & details as I usually do with these things.

The name I gave the place is a direct reference to a Bsky mutual's creative endeavor as well

Got some nice comments on the last few chapters of LUU which is a boost after a good but tiring day at work.

My editor-wife is currently sick though, so no new chapters for a bit.

"If you liked this book about the gender politics of romance fiction, you might like:
- Transfeminist screaming
- Biting commentary on the state of trans healthcare
- Lesbian romance
- Unhinged lesbian body horror and sex (and overlaps thereof)
- More transfeminist screaming (now with race!)"
Forgot to post this but got a kick out of the "people who bought this book also bought" for "A Rotten Girl", just... yeah, that makes perfect sense.

As someone who writes in a way that's definitely not appropriate to serializing (until my story is done and edited), it's impressive to me how many of my writer friends do that. That they're able to produce coherent well structures stories without a huge amount of shuffling is wild to me.

About 700 words on my WIP and fixed some continuity stuff from a significant change in the way the specific weirdness of my main character's uh, power, I suppose, works.

In the meantime I am, however, engaged in finding out what happens to the slightly chaotic girl that's leading my WIP to wherever it's going.

My lovely editor (wife) is unfortunately tied up with a lot of time consuming adulting, so after that rapid release of two chapters there's going to be a little bit of a slow down.
