MacArthur Genius Grant recipient and Pulitzer Prize finalist Kelly Link's THE LOVER OF BOOKS, in which dinner party guests relate uncanny stories as a haunting—filled with wet footprints, mysteriously placed caches of buttons, and ghosts, past and present—casts a specter over the evening; plus an untitled anthology of ghost stories compiled by the author.

Happiest Book Birthday to @mcflycahill90.bsky.social's Audition for the Fox! 🦊 I'm still in awe of how much world Marty managed to fit in such a slim volume. (Vesper is, too.) This book is a marvel. 🖤 tachyonpublications.com/product/audi...

Shout out to everyone only now learning that "Albert Einstein was reclusive at the end of his career, shunning public engagements."

Really meant,

"For the last *20 years* of his career, Einstein opposed US racism by only speaking publicly at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

In just one week, my first short story collection, A CATALOG OF STORMS, appears from Fairwood Press!

I’m so delighted by what writers I’ve long admired have to say about it — and I’d love for you to grab your own Catalog of Storms, here: fairwoodpress.com/st...
A Catalog of Storms cover and blurb by Michael Swanwick, overlaid on a seaside photo. “ Subtle, quiet, and convincing. This is the shape of science fiction to come.” A Catalog of Storms cover and blurb by Caroline M. Yoachim, overlaid on a seaside photo. “ A beautiful collection of vividly-imagined worlds and well-realized characters, depicted in gorgeous prose.” A Catalog of Storms cover and blurb by Nancy Kress, overlaid on a seaside photo. “Wilde is an alchemist, turning the ordinary into the richly, rewardingly strange.” A Catalog of Storms cover and blurb by A.C. Wise, overlaid on a seaside photo. “Gentle humor, beautiful rage, exquisite worlds that imagine the past, the future, and the never-was… a gorgeous collection that will sweep readers away.”

THE MEMORY HUNTERS is out today. With my debut, I didn't understand what kind of change a release would mean. Now I do. This book is no longer mine or my team's. I've released it, and all that's in it and all I left unsaid belongs to you.

Actually one of my favorite scientists. His writings are marvelous. He had such a sense of wonder and discovery that shines through into his writings. Highly recommend "Humboldt's Cosmos" as a primer, which I may reread next

Your reminder that Humboldt Fog cheese, Humboldt County, CA, the Humboldt penguin (Spheniscus humboldti),and the Humboldt Current that allows wine grapes to grow in Chile are all named for an 18th C gay scientist whose love letters were all burned and who left his entire estate to his “valet.” 🏳️‍🌈

It’s been an honor to edit this anthology, and I hope that it hits just right in our fraught political moment.

Thanks also to the late José Esteban Muñoz for shaping my understanding—as an artist and a scholar, as a person—of queerness’s radical and critical possibilities.
“The future is queerness's domain....

Some will say that all we have are the pleasures of this moment, but we must never settle for that minimal transport; we must dream and enact new and better pleasures, other ways of being in the world, and ultimately new worlds. Queerness is a longing that propels us onward, beyond romances of the negative and toiling in the present. Queerness is that thing that lets us feel that this world is not enough, that indeed something is missing."

—José Esteban Muñoz,
Cruising Utopia: The Then and There of Queer Futurity Introduction

UNDER MY LEFT COLLARBONE is a tattoo that reads, "not yet here."

What's not yet here is queerness; what's not yet here is the future. I first read these words by queer theorist José Esteban Muñoz in my early twenties, and I've returned to them over and over again since then, because I find their message absolutely electrifying. While the world makes it hard for queer and trans people to survive, let alone thrive, we nonetheless fight our way toward other possibilities-toward the horizon of what Muñoz called queer futurity. Simply but radically, queer futurity argues that more than this is possible. Queerness itself rejects the oppressive status quo of the here and now, offering instead endlessly interconnected ways to imagine the "concrete possibility" of another world, another future. Or, many other futures. The same question, of course, underlies some of the most powerful speculative fiction of the last century: but what if things were different?

Grounded in the political realities of the present yet imagining alternate possibilities for the future, the twenty-two pieces…”
