📚 Just Finished: Everything Will Swallow You. 🐶🧔‍♂️🐶🧔‍♂️…a rambling tale around the English countryside about a vinyl record loving, thrifting man & his knitting, cooking, gardening, 6 language speaking dog. Funny, nostalgic, quirky & utterly unique.
Book Cover: Everything Will Swallow You, written by Tom Cox. A very different read, wonderful story telling. The last 18 pages brought it all together for me and almost had me running to the bathroom for the tissue box. One of my favorite, meaningful lines, amongst many scattered throughout, along with quite a few laugh out loud ones too: “I'm just an old bloke. But I know one thing: being surrounded by a lovely group of people, just a nice manageable number of them, not too big or overwhelming, at a time in your life when you properly know yourself is a rare and special gift.” (page 316/330) Front Book Flap: Everything Will Swallow You, written by Tom Cox. “Have you ever been curious about how people live when nobody is watching? Have you wondered whether there's more going on than meets the eye? Eric and Carl live in Dorset in a small white cottage under the shadow of a big cliff. Eric sells old records and antiques. Carl cooks, cleans and crochets. Nearing seventy, Eric is a lifelong accumulator of obscure objects and has an easygoing, chaotic approach to life. The front garden winter pansies in a planter, black stained glass kitty stake, and list of bulbs and specifics about their blooming times, height, colors & uniqueness of blooms. Exciting! Planted all except the 2 bags (16 bulbs) of the Foxy Foxtrot Tulipas, which are sitting in the refrigerator crisper drawer, waiting for their required later planting time, which I’m now trying to remember!! 🌷🙇‍♀️ I had to wait to plant the bulbs for the 1st window of 4 consecutive days of low temperatures below 50°. Finally going to hit that this Thanksgiving week! Yet another thing for which to be grateful. 😊

Aww. And I have a special fondness for gray tabbies. My 1st kitty ever was Allie, found as a kitty in a trash dumpster. I was lucky to be her person for nearly 12 years, before cancer stole her. Forever missed & loved. ❤️‍🩹🐾 Hugs to your sweet gray tabby, Shadow from us.

That’s what I like about quilting (new, unexpected hobby in my early retirement years) … just a little bit every day or so & one day you have a whole little piece of art. I think a kitty blanket for Wild Thing may be just the thing! These were 2 of Raphi’s favorites; rag quilts are esp fun & easy!😽

📍 Update: 12th & Final Block ✅
… next is a trip to the fabric store for the coordinating solid “offset” blocks in the quilt’s center section. It’s a process!
Final Block, the 12th, is finally done! This block has 4 fabrics: solid blue, white with tiny blue circle outlines, star shaped blue/white on dark blue background print, and multi-blue crosshatch print. The 11 other quilt blocks arranged on 2 white tables in our Quilt Class classroom. Lots of variety. It will be interesting how this all comes together. I’m not really into sampler type quilts, so this semester’s project was outside my usual “style”.
