You might think that Frodo and Sam’s relationship is hella gay but Tolkien actually based it on the British WWI practice of gentlemen officers having ‘Batmen’ assigned to them to act as valets and servants in the military. Which often led to a lot of hella gay stuff.

My favorite bit of classic fantasy writing is Conan freaking out that the giant gorilla can see them through a window and the owner of the house explains that it is actually a series of mirrors reflecting the image from another room and Conan just nods and thinks “the foulest of magics” to himself.

Just checking out the shattered legendary sword that once struck down great evil on the eve of a quest to battle that great evil again and managed to cut myself with it before dropping it on the floor. Wonder if that’s an omen of some kind.
