I fear the day that Chris' shoes finally fall apart beyond super gluing them back together.
annafunk.bsky.social
I could tell it was figuring out where to get out, because it kept trying to crawl up to the opening, so I just put the while thing outside, and I'll hope that she crawls out and leaves 😭

My birthday is in 11 days. Does anyone want to buy me a new Dyson? Might need a new house.
annafunk.bsky.social
There was a black widow in the corner of my living room, so I vacuumed it up, and she survived being sucked up, so now I have a very pissed off black widow in my Dyson 😭😭😭

I'm laughing so hard at this because after she talked about baking bread for 40 minutes on New Heights, I went out and bought a gluten-free cookbook so I could bake bread that my partner can eat, too.

YES! I think about podcasts a lot when writing alt text! I am entirely uninterested in what the hosts and guests look like or what shirt they're wearing, UNLESS that is relevant to the the conversation, and it would waste so much of my time if they described that when it's not relevant.
annafunk.bsky.social
For example, if I post a selfie, it would be enough to tell people that know me "A selfie of me," but someone who can't see it wouldn't know that I currently have long dark blonde hair, blue eyes, and wear glasses with a thin rose-gold cat-eye rim.

Use your best judgement, but use Alt text!
annafunk.bsky.social
One caveat that I don't have a very good answer for is how detailed to get when describing a picture of 1-2 people, especially a selfie. In most cases, if you're describing it to someone who knows the subject, you'd just say "A picture of [the person]" but that leaves out context to strangers.
annafunk.bsky.social
Another example I like to use is for this inside joke. The alt text doesn't have to explain the joke, or describe that there are other magnets and a photo on the fridge.

The alt text for this image is exactly what I would say if I were in the back seat of a car, explaining a post to the driver.
A floppy disk labeled "System Restore disk, do not erase" held on a refrigerator with a magnet.

And also, this example is so far and above what 90% of images need! It's the A+ in an AP English class example.

It's perfectly acceptable to imagine describing an image to someone who is driving a car, and can't look. "A capybara relaxing in water with a yuzu on its head" is still VERY GOOD.

Irregular reminder that alt text on images is a valuable accessibility tool, and also lets your images show in search results or respect mute lists. For instance, I found the below image by searching "capybara alt text".
A brief guide on writing good alt text for images, which suggests including
1. Who or what
2. Their expression or emotion
3. A description of the image
4. Notable colors
5. Interesting features

The included example image and description: "A capybara looking relaxed in a hot spa. Yellow yuzu fruits are floating in the water, and one is balanced on the top of the capybara's head."

Dan's addition: saving the "interesting thing" for last is a bit like writing a joke - end with the memorable punchline!

I was skeptical about Joshua Tree, but ended up going last December, and it was so worth it. I really need to get back to Yosemite 😭 I live less than 3 hours from it, but I haven't been since I was a little kid.

(And agreed about hiking in LA, lol)

I get really smug about living in California and having access to views that a lot of people wait their whole life to see once... But then I see pictures like these, and I feel like I've never actually seen beauty in nature 😳
annafunk.bsky.social
If he does Veto them in the next few days, I don't think he would ever be able to get me back into his biggest group of voters, which is "unenthusiastic, but willing to vote for him if the other option is a republican"
annafunk.bsky.social
That being said, I'm still worried that if he moves into the national stage, he would be far less progressive than he has been in a state where progressiveness is advantageous to a politician.

...And honestly, that might be exactly why he'll do well nationally. 🫠
annafunk.bsky.social
Do I want leadership that isn't afraid of gaining attention for doing the right thing for a vulnerable group? Unequivocally yes.

But in today's political climate, I would also silently nod and respect his decision to let them quietly become law without drawing attention to a vulnerable group.
annafunk.bsky.social
California is a a very progressive state where signing those bills won him points with the most amount of people.

At the national stage? Not so much. I'm not trying to defend a demon, but I do think that his plan here is to let them slide through and not gain attention on the national stage.
annafunk.bsky.social
This is encouraging.

Gavin Newsom is exactly what I expect a politician to be-- A servant to the will of the people. When he was limited to the scope of California, he actively signed more pro-trans legislation into law than any other governor that I can find (pls correct me if I'm wrong)

BUT 🧵

Also, under CA law, if he doesn’t veto them they become law. He doesn’t need to sign them for them to go into effect. Newsom is trash, but this article missed some important details.

Californians, let’s call (916) 445-2841 to tell Newsom’s office to sign the following pro LGBTQ+ rights bills before the deadline:

AB 82/SB 497
AB 1084/SB 59
SB 418
AB 554
AB 728
AB 678
SB 590
SB 450

He hasn't signed the other bills yet, but he still has days to do so
This headline is misleading for not mentioning that.

The gender education veto is bad, but far from the most important trans rights bill on his desk.

There's still time to contact Newsom for the rest!

Most of the time for me, it's getting stuck between "Not at all" and "Several Days" Like... What if I had ONE really bad day over the last two weeks, but was otherwise fine?! That's more than "not at all" but definitely not "Several days" or even "A few days" 🫠

The options to answer these questions feel like they are designed specifically to frustrate autistic people.
question: "I woke up feeling fresh and rested"
options:
At No Time, Some of the Time, Less than half of the time, More than half of the time, most of the time or All the time. Question: "Over the last 2 weeks, how often have you been bothered by the following problem: Little interest or pleasure in doing things"
Options: Not at all, Several days, More than Half the days, Nearly every day"

Ahh! I'm so glad that you found someone you click with! Yeah, everyone talks about how great therapy is, but we really need to be talking about how great it is to find the RIGHT therapist!

All I have to say to all the people (and especially men) who have an issue with Wood is, "Skill Issue"

If your girl isn't dancing around, giggling, and giving suggestive winks at you when Wood plays, then you need to assume that you've never actually given her an orgasm.

I'm glad that Taylor has caught up to Carly Rae Jepsen levels of suggestiveness. 😂

There are people who think that Taylor Alison "Only bought this dress so you can take it off ah ah ahhhh (2017)" Swift is being sexual for the first time in her career? hahaha.
popnok.bsky.social
if you think it's weird for a 35 year old to be sexual "for the first time in her career"
a) she is 35
b) I have shocking news for you about her previous work

I decided to unfollow a small handful of politicians and political reporters and podcasters, and I think my feed is somewhat bearable now.

Keeping up with the news is important, but so is making sure that you aren't bombarded with it. ✌🏼
