PhilipGlass After thoughtful consideration, I have decided to withdraw my Symphony No. 15 "Lincoln" from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Symphony No. 15 is a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, and the values of the Kennedy Center today are in direct conflict with the message of the Symphony. Therefore, I feel an obligation to withdraw this Symphony premiere from the Kennedy Center under its current leadership. Gilp Me Philip Glass

Another victim of the DOGE cuts to government funded programs; the Library here is ending their Hotspot loan program for areas without internet access.
ST. LOUIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ST. LOUS' ORIGINAL SEARCH ENGINE' Our hotspot lending program, designed to provide free internet access to those who needed it most, was originally funded with over $4 million in federal "Emergency Connectivity Fund grants and additional support from the Library's Foundation. The St. Louis Public Library made over 12,000 hotspots available through this program during the two years federal support was available. When we wrote the grants and launched this service with Emergency Connectivity Funding, our goal was to help bridge the digital divide in our community. The response was overwhelming, confirming that the need for internet access is more than the Library can provide on its own. The federal funding has been cancelled, the cost of the equipment is rising, and unfortunately, we've seen a high loss rate of hotspots, which adds to the expense and makes the program unsustainable. As a result, the Library has to phase out the program, and end the circulation of hotspots after February 28, 2026. January 29 is the last day to place a hold. Depending on the response, we cannot guarantee your hold will be filled by February 28, 2026. We understand how valuable this service has been for many of our customers and know this change may be disappointing. Please know that we are committed to supporting our community through other free services, like public Wi-Fi and computers available at all our locations. We are sorry that this heavily used program has to end, and we invite you to continue to use the extensive technology available at the St.Louis Public Library. ST. I was today years old when I realized that 2 books my godmother gave me when I was like 4, were written by the wife of an Irish President.

Current impacts at Voyageurs National park due to both federal funding cuts, the government shut down and other issues.
Park Staffing Shortage The current federal government shutdown, in addition to a 24 percent loss of NPS permanent workforce since January, is threatening Voyageurs. Parks need people. • Aside from the shutdown, Voyagers National Park is currently down four law enforcement (LE) positions, resulting in the park scaling back on emergency services this past summer. • Although LE positions are exempt from the hiring freeze, broad NPS hiring efforts are slow and challenging, and there is hesitancy to apply to work for the federal agency. • For various reasons, Voyageurs National Park is currently down 12 full-time positions. • The park currently does not have a permanent superintendent, or a lead wildlife biologist, to name a few. • Retirements are causing vacancies due to the hiring freeze. • Voyageurs National Park staff are wearing multiple hats to maintain basic operations as DOI has issued an order stating that national parks must remain "open and accessible." • NPS staffing is an ongoing challenge, and we've never experienced anything at this level of uncertainty before; it's creating a stressful situation and impacting park staff morale. • Many park staff face uncertainty about their next paycheck, while vacant positions and more potential cuts put our park at risk.
