Her comment on Poland ('it is growing twice as fast as the UK' begging the q. how?) and our being 'addicted to immigration' also deserved to raise eyebrows. However, she has an infectious chuckle, heard many times today and her speech may be enough to halt REF. Except I doubt it.

Badenoch's speech www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLB9... was better than feared but worse than one hoped. Some bad slips ('since Brexit and Covid the size of the civil service has fallen by 1/3' - she meant the opposite - 'we were brave enough to take Britain out of the EU' - why 'brave'?

The first conviction under the 1911 OSA was in 1913 (of a German spy) one year before we went to war with Germany. During the Cold War the OSA was repeatedly used in Russian espionage cases (e.g Prime the GCHQ spy) but we were never at war with the USSR. Who's our enemy is our decision, not China's.
anthonyglees.bsky.social
There have been many iterations of the 1911 OSA, as I was able to point out on BBC R5 Live just now, laws can't be retrospectively applied so this is about the law as it existed before 2023. That law is 100% sufficient for this case. 'An Enemy' is not necessarily a belligerent...

If I were the leader of the opposition a year after an election, facing an unpopular government, I would simply focus my energy on criticising the current government's policy record rather than constantly bemoaning the last fifteen years of policymaking, in which I was intimately involved.

Yet another ‘you couldn’t make it up if you tried’ from the Brexit agitprop machine. The Telegraph etc told us we’d be better off outside the EU, making our own deals, relying on our bestest, the USA. The reality? We’re powerless, trapped nowhere between the EU & the USA. Reliant on China.

‘Sooty’ - a certain irony, perhaps, under the circumstances.

What was that Sooty? The children can't hear you!

Brexit divided the Tories but what’s going on now is about fracturing the rump into a large number of small pieces. A Black leader whose deputy says Black faces are too visible. You couldn’t make this stuff up.

Jenrick is just another milestone on the Tory Party's road of terminal decline.

If you think Kemi Badenoch is bad, just for a moment stop & think about the car crash it would be if this man was leading the Tories into the next GE!😱
Imagine it - Starmer, Farage & Jenrick the main options!🫣

Let’s hope the Greens & Lib Dem’s can work together🙏

The evidence that China has for several years been a national security threat to the UK is overcoming. It continues to be a real & present danger. Why does the Govt not say so? The heads of MI5 & MI6 have publicly affirmed this is so.

We look forward to Lord Toby Young & his ‘Free Speech Union’ telling us if they think this disgusting display is ok by them. Ditto Douglas Murray. Ironic that it is a Tory HE law that doesn’t just permit it, it safeguards it. There is no total free speech in the UK - nor should there be.
anthonyglees.bsky.social
Yes. Disgusting racism, I thought. And intended to be taken as such, nudge-nudge, wink-wink.

Robert Jenrick, who just said he doesn't want to live in a country filled with non-white faces, begins his speech with a series of jokes suggesting that David Lammy is thick
anthonyglees.bsky.social
A remarkably poor, weedy speech by Jenrick, imo. Whereas on Today, imo, Badenoch came over quite well. She has a good radio voice. Yet her speech yday was hopeless. All rather bizarre.

Jenrick is a modern-day Enoch Powell minus the intellect.
bestforbritain.org
Wow. Robert Jenrick doubles down by branding a black journalist's questions "ridiculous" and saying that the problem is not his comments, but "journalists like you who pop up and try to knock me down", adding that "this is the reason why terrorist attacks happen". ~AA

Surely ‘parallel’ lives is what we should be aiming at. A single set of our British values & rules, of course.
But the opposite of ‘parallel’ is ‘totalitarian’.
lewisgoodall.com
Am wondering if all of those suddenly deciding they’re against communities living “parallel lives” might reconsider their support of religious schools? Or indeed private ones?

I am constantly struck by how poorly prepared Badenoch is for everything, and how little interest she seemingly has in major details.

These doctors should be struck off the list. There’s plenty of work for them in countries who share their views.

Students taking part in these repugnant events should not be receiving tax-payer loans. Story, end of.

Chicago priest Father Michael Pfleger: "The state of emergency is in AMERICA, not Chicago. It's birthed from this president and his admin's reign of terror."

Britain today.
Sen - literally - called Jews ‘Untermenschen’.
Hasan - literally - called for Starmer & other LAB leaders to be ‘decapitated’.
This is the point where ‘free speech’ becomes ‘incitement’.

It sounds trite to say Putin & Russian supporters have no right to rob this beautiful girl of her life but that’s the truth. They don’t have that right & we must put him ban in his box www.dailystar.co.uk/news/world-n...

Hearing Shami Chakrabarti (elevated to the peerage by Corbyn) opining, yet again, that ‘we’ require the right to demonstrate (even repeatedly, regularly & obsessively) despite Islamist attacks make it clear that, for her, ‘liberty’ trumps ‘security’. Disgraceful.
