Italy in particular saw fascism and colonialism as interlinked. From the constant invocation of Libya as the "Fourth Shore" of Italy and the notion of spazio vitale being used to justify territorial expansion, Mussolini saw fascism as the way to compete with the UK and France in colonial affairs.
The first fascist country in the world, Italy, already had a colonial empire from the jump (Eritrea, Somalia and Libya) and proceeded to commit a genocide in Libya between 1929–1934, before invading Ethiopia in 1935. But people talk about fascism like it has nothing to do with colonialism.
