I'm still not sure we're a mature industry 50+ years on from Pong, which leads to an awful lot of pain for a lot of people.

...know what it's doing or why, when to pivot, how to pivot etc. Even many of the more consistent performers do so from a position as the incumbent super-hubs in the system, able to brute-force their way into maintaining their position, but always prone to the next big transition.

As another round of industry layoffs seems to be rolling, I feel like I need to say out loud that I don't think most people get just how much of the industry's 'strategic and leadership' layer is a mix of self-confident Nostradami and snake oil salesmen.

The video also shows the most unhinged design document I’ve ever made, an ‘interaction matrix’ spreadsheet we used to figure out where some of the highest value dynamism might be found to help guide our early efforts. That thing genuinely took me like a week and a half to build, never again! :D

Proportional representation and a more balanced press, as much as Europe has, forces you to collaborate, to negotiate, to find a middle way, because you will not progress without it. Leadership then actually represents a society.

...and 'what first past the post' does to your psyche. There's no concept of negotiation, no concept of concessions, no concept of collaboration, no concept of working together. People split into tribes built on shallow principles and they stay there. Now there really is "no such thing as society".

The laziness and implied bias of the BBC here is extreme - "No 10 did not comment" presumably because the CPS and courts are independent, but there's no attempt to find anyone who would argue the opposite view, just the unchallenged whine of someone who called for asylum seekers to be burnt to death
