See- the problem is - if this person doesn't own these properties, people who need to rent in the area would have no one to rent from. The only way not to have some landlords is to only have the state own housing. I'm not sure that's the way to go either. Not everyone CAN own for their own reasons.

Also a good point - I read them before I went to college, so yeah... There's that. And it's been ages since I read them. I too probably would DNF now too...

Fair. I skipped through that in book one in particular.
Through later books I noticed that some of the misogyny (absolutely present) was also oddly inverted. Bond was the one who fell for her, she left him, she rescued him etc... Bond was often awful, but the books usually amused me. But that's ME

I don't think I ever got a deposit back after moving out even though I would leave a place spotless.
At least once I got SOME back... but never all. They always had an excuse for why not.

The one particular guy who gave me this feeling was a perfectly nice guy. He was a friend of friends. I couldn't have told you anything downright wrong about him. I'd hate to use that to describe it/him. But still.... he really did.

It's like anti chemistry.. you meet someone only to instantly dislike them and have them rub you up the wrong way no matter what they actually say.

I had a fruitless conversation with someone French one time as I tried to ask about languages spoken in France and they managed to avoid talking about the hexagon and only mention the languages spoken in other places because I (my fault) couldn't think of a way to limit it to the european continent

OK well, I remember what the streets, roads and rivers looked like and cleaner was not an adjective I'd use to describe them
Berries on the sides of roads were not to be eaten because of the lead on them
