When one remembers that the overarching conservative project since Buckley has been to roll back the New Deal and civil rights advances, one understands that Trumpism and conservatism are the same.
Donald Trump and his father were busted by the DOJ for refusing to rent to Black people. They were guilty but they avoided responsibility by aggressively litigating. It was one of the formative experiences of his life.
