TS Eliot was born #OTD 26 September 1888.

'Ash on an old man's sleeve
Is all the ash the burnt roses leave
Dust in the air suspended
Marks the place where a story ended
Dust inbreathed was a house
The walls, the wainscot and the mouse'

The ruin of St Peter, Alresford, Essex.

In Samuel van Hoogstraten's incredible perspective box you look in from 2 different angles & see 7 rooms & 3 outdoor areas of this house. An ingenious feat of painting. Today is Hoogstraten's day.

The Brutalist "kills two rabbits with one bullet", as a Bulgarian saying goes. It simultaneously shows the advantages of immigration to the US, and gives an account of Hungarians escaping an authoritarian Budapest regime.

Trump and Orbán are criticised with one fell swoop.

I love it.

I don't really see The Substance as having the feminist theme at its core.

For me, the main theme is the difficulty of maintaining discipline and routine in an ultracapitalist society: if only Elisabeth/Sue respected the balance, nothing bad would've happened.

“If an actor lets one AI robot manipulate his or her performance even a little bit, an inch will eventually become a mile, and all integrity, purity, and truth of art will be replaced by financial interests only. We can’t let that happen.”
