As @antoniafarzan.bsky.social’s recent story shows, Pawtucket has a lot of heart. @mapcenter.com is a great example.

Text that reads:

Though Hasbro came to be practically synonymous with Pawtucket, the company got its start in Providence in the 1920s. Hassenfeld Brothers, as it was known as the time, sold textile remnants – essentially, fabric scraps.

As former Providence Journal reporter G. Wayne Miller recounts in his book “Kid Number One: Alan Hassenfeld and Hasbro,” the Hassenfeld brothers came up with creative new ways to use those scraps, like lining wooden pencil boxes. Soon, they’d expanded to selling school supplies. That, in turn, led to toys.

New this morning:

After Helena Foulkes entered the Rhode Island gov's race last week, the conversation immediately turned to the opioid epidemic and her role as president of CVS pharmacy.

I wrote an op-ed about how the ensuing conversation can actually serve Rhode Island, not just the candidates.
McKee and Foulkes have our attention on R.I.’s opioid crisis. Here’s how they can earn our respect. • Rhode Island Current
The 2026 governor’s race between Gov. Dan McKee and his Democratic rival Helena Foulkes was only hours old when the conversation had already turned to opioids. Philip Eil has some advice for how the b...
