Managing tech, finance, advocacy, kids, community, and life. Barely. If we're serious about democracy and equality then we need #DCStatehood now.

We need a Congress that works for constituents and the country instead of picking petty fights for fundraising email talking points.

Here's a fun fact for week 2 of the federal shutdown:

Number of appropriations bills passed by the House this year: 3

Number of anti-DC bills passed by the House this year: 7

Even when the House was in session, Republicans were spending time harassing DC instead of doing their jobs #FreeDC

Wait what? Are you saying the app impersonated its customers in sending advocacy emails to public officials?

I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America

It was a year ago today that @51st.news sent out its first newsletter. Since then, my colleagues have been working to build a sustainable local news operation to cover D.C. the way we always wanted to cover it. Thanks to everyone who has read, subscribed, and donated! Onwards!

These are the people getting huge tax cuts — paid for by cuts to health care for millions of Americans.

Every lie Trump and Republicans are telling right now is meant to distract you from this.

More cyberattacks that you will know about less.

The lead U.S. cyber defense agency has furloughed 65% of its staff. The 20-year-old law that encourages organizations to share information on attacks just expired. Happy Cybersecurity Awareness Month! wapo.st/46Nk53R

I cannot emphasize enough that this administration shouldn’t get 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦 𝘷𝘰𝘵𝘦 from the Dems until they start obeying the law.

Not. One.

Optics matter: if you want people to turn out next election despite troops in the streets, then show them it matters.

Do your goddamn jobs and hold the line.

For as much as some members of Congress say the D.C. government is dysfunctional and should be disbanded, it's worth noting that the D.C. government will open and operate normally tomorrow because elected officials can do stuff like, you know, pass annual budgets.

If you’re upset with the government shutting down or dissatisfied with government in general, don’t blame “Washington, DC.” The people of DC, all 700k of us, have no voting representation in Congress. This falls on the 535 chuckleheads the American voters sent to Congress. #DCStatehood #FreeDC

If any other president in all of history said the military should use American cities as a training ground he would be removed from office that same day. The hardest thing to tolerate in all this is how relatively silent elected democrats are. It’s ridiculous.

A political party that was serious about defeating fascism, strengthening real democracy, pursuing justice and promoting the common welfare could do a whole host of effective things before sending us each 7000 texts a day asking for more money. But that’s what they think their job is!

Republicans have concluded attacking blue cities is good politics after some House Dems supported their attacks on DC. They have now scheduled a hearing to discuss how to attack cities across the country. Senate Dems can stop these attacks by blocking the DC Trump takeover bills

Rep. Eli Crane does not know the difference between the DC Attorney General (@dcattorneygeneral.bsky.social) and the U.S. Attorney for DC (Jeanine Pirro).

Rep. Crane seems to think Pirro is doing a pretty bad job.
