The fact that any landlord in Australia has not installed air conditioning should tell you everything you need to know about landlords.

Is it just me, or has every phone app forgotten how to do horizontal scrolling in the past couple years?

I can't scroll smoothly on any list of items laid out horizontally anymore, and they all do it. Steam, Netflix, even my banking app can't show me upcoming bills without skipping five at a time.

Microsoft is ending Python 3.9 support in Azure functions. As of the 31st of October, you'll need to upgrade to Portion 3.13.

So, you want me to do a Friday deploy, on Halloween, to upgrade to a minor version of 13?

I know a summoning ritual when I see one, no thank you.

A super intelligent AI system may not be around the corner, but it is the stated goal of a bunch of people with a lot of money and government support.

We don't know how far we are from super intelligence, but we also don't know how far we are from AI safety.
Statement on Superintelligence
“We call for a prohibition on the development of superintelligence, not lifted before there is (1) broad scientific consensus that it will be done safely and controllably, and (2) strong public bu...

Pretending Charlie Kirk was a good person is an insult to his memory. He set out to be a hateful bigot who spewed distrust and misinformation, and he was enormously successful at that. He achieved his goal of making the world a worse place. Don't take that from him in death. That's disrespectful.

I'm old enough that I have to do the math to figure out my age, young enough that I can still do that basic subtraction.

So, uh, idk, late 30s I guess?

Last year, I developed a hole in my stomach.

Topologically speaking, I think I became a mobius strip.

I didn't expect it, but I did somehow grow into the kind of person who says "ooh, cauliflower" when running across a big bit in a meal.

Take the AI bros at their word

AGI is coming

The time to discuss UBI is now

Go on, how do you handle the increase in unemployment that will result from the inevitable introduction of AGI?

If it's right around the corner, surely you want to be advocating for a plan before then, yeah?

A filtering pattern I don't see enough: exclusion.

I was looking at prepaid mobile plans, since this phone is gonna be paid off this week. I went to a comparison site, and they have a way to pick the carriers you want to include, but no way to pick the ones you want to exclude.

I accidentally installed an update for my phone that lists Gemini as my fourth most recently used app (of four displayed) under all circumstances, even if I've never opened it.

This is why people hate AI. I literally don't care if it can help me code faster just stop forcing it on everyone.

"Get rid of distractions with focus mode" says the distracting pop up, bouncing in the corner of the screen while dimming the rest of the page, intent on letting me get nothing done until I acknowledge it.

Systemic classism and racism should be understood in many ways, including the part where we spend huge resources protecting the wealthy from any potential threat and basically nothing on protecting the marginalized from being preyed upon by scammers operating right in front of our faces.

It's wild that we have so many systems that drag at the opportunities of the poor and spend so few resources focusing on them. Not just money resources, but just time thinking and worrying about it.

Even if this were true, people in good deserts deserve to live, too.
Eugenicists are so stupid.
The U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services has repeatedly claimed: “If you’re healthy, it’s almost impossible to die from an infectious disease in modern times.”

That is dangerously false.

It's actually wild to think about the effect that vaccines have had on modern life and society.

Most people who've lived in developed nations their whole lives and are alive today have grown up in a post vaccine world.

AI hype artists: It's not a matter of if, but when, AI will be smart enough to XYZ.

Let XYZ = pose an existential threat to humanity.

Observe the results.

We've had misaligned AI for ages. Recent advances have also given us deceptive AI with goal preservation without solving the alignment problem.
