The Toronto Circus Riot broke out on this day 170 years ago — sparked by a brawl between angry clowns and firefighters at a Victorian brothel.

Here's my annual thread about one of the strangest stories in Canadian history...

Found this photo at the antique shop the other day. I thought his cap badge was very distinctive, but did not recognize it. Wondering if anyone else can help place him.

the not-officially-a-SOTU begins in 30 minutes.

I propose that, for the entire duration of the speech, we post nothing but pets, birds, flowers, landscapes, comics, art, and other lovely things.

zero reacts, because there’s no point in reacting to the words of a liar

First few pieces of the AFV Club M54 kit started. Happy with how things are fitting together. Tons of tiny pieces, taking my time to make sure small errors don't become big problems.

Hi All, two big releases this morning. First, I just sent out my weekend update (free as always). There was nothing shocking in the Oval Office bullying of Zelensky. Trump was speaking Putin’s words because he sides with Putin. Stop pretending otherwise. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

On this day in 2022, the brave defenders of Snake Island made their immortal response to the Moskva:

"Snake Island, I, Russian warship, repeat the offer: put down your arms and surrender, or you will be bombed. Have you understood me? Do you copy?"

"Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

fuck me for believing all the bullshit about American exceptionalism I guess

I won’t stop believing tho

I still believe that this is a place for the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to be free

I still believe in the better angels of our nature

I still believe in the freedom from fear

You defend your country from a bunch of orcs, who sent a hit squad to kill you. Their daily missiles slaughter your citizens, destroy your hospitals, cause civilian blood shed at bus stops - and then two foul, evil men ambush you in front of the press, so they can pillage your country.
I will never forget the photo of Zelenskyy’s face after he saw Russia’s war crimes in Bucha in 2022. He seemed to age years in an afternoon. Watching him constantly cross the world asking for aid that should have been thrown at him is one of the deepest shames of our age.
