Hello! I'm a queer indie author of fantasy, romance, and gothic horror. I write the Flos Magicae series, my new release is a short story collection #TheCarnelianKing and I publish a sword & sorcery serial on Patreon #TheBlackKnightSaga

Cover art for The Carnelian King and Other Stories by Arden Powell: fantasy illustration of a red and gold dragon with a snakelike head, catfish whiskers and koi scales, looking at a knight in golden armour. The knight is riding a dappled grey horse, who is rearing to meet the dragon. They are against a dreamy, romantic background of painted trees and sky. The Bachelor’s Valet illustrated cover art: watercolour silhouettes of two men, one fixing the other’s tie, on a teal background in a field of tall yellow hollyhock flowers. The Faerie Hounds of York illustrated cover art: a woodcut-style wolf rearing up against a dark green background. The Bayou illustrated cover art: a minimalist black church surrounded by bare trees in front of a full moon or a pale sun, with a staring alligator underneath.

Forever flicker-posting.

A photo of a male northern flicker (Colaptes auratus), a sleek taupe-colored woodpecker with a gray face and a long beak, red cheek patches, a red spot on the back of its head, a large black bar across its chest, black and red tail feathers, and black polka dots all over its belly. It is perched on a thin bare tree branch with its head turned over its shoulder to the left of frame, its belly toward the camera, and pale blue sky behind it.

I got halfway through the survey before realizing I kept trying to answer all the questions like how I used to preorder books when I had spending money? Which is....not a helpful representation of current times. So! Yeah. Libraries!

Pretty much my whole publishing career, tbh! I met writer friends here, found every venue I've submitted stories to, got involved with sale events, publications, and fundraisers, found new art clients. Pretty sure I got my audiobook deal because my book's been circulating on tiktok without me, too.

I love big snakey dragons with lots of coils. Anywhere on the scale between elegant serpentine dragons and cute chunky boa-faces, they're all great.

It got so dark after a night and a day of rustling winds. It's been summertime hot the past three days again. Are we finally getting rain?
