Oct. 8, 1925: Mussolini further consolidates his authoritarian grip on Italy by setting plans to abolish all local and regional governments. Elected councils and mayors will be replaced with a “podesta” named by the Fascist regime. All police agencies will be put under central authority too.

The answer to the question: Are you a Pharisee? is -- no, I am not a first-century Jewish expert in the Torah.

The title of the video should instead be: 3 signs you might be a *bad Catholic*.

Note how "bad Catholic" is equated with being Jewish.

I think one thing people often overlook is that this isn't about politics, it's also pastoral in part--the head of the Catholic Church is looking out for Catholics who are being unjustly and violently treated.

Ma figghia makes play phone calls to family and friends and I have to say they are so realistic I find myself sitting quiet until she's done "talking" with them. The fact that her phone is a toy wooden train track still eludes me.

France: COVID ER visits rise.

During September 15–21 (week 37), France saw a sharp increase in COVID ER visits. Cases rose 43% among children under 15 (156 additional visits) and 29% for individuals aged 15 or older (224 additional visits) compared with the previous week.

French pharmacies run out of Covid tests as cases soar.

Up to 150,000 COVID ‘auto-tests’ were sold last week amid a surge linked to the new XFG variant.

Self-tests give results in 15 mins but are only ~70% accurate, meaning 3 in 10 positive cases could be missed.

Probably my favourite long late antiquity piece of art. The so-called "palimpsest" fresco in Santa Maria Antiqua in Rome shows consecutive layers of paintings from the sixth century (Mary as empress of heaven) all the way to the seventh and early eight century. The level of detail is just amazing.
