The survey responses in the Ward 13 election duel provide a clear distinction between candidates. Check out what they had to say. #yyc #calgary #yycvote

On this topic, a recent Freakonomics interview with Canadian author Dan Wang on why China is building these massive projects while the US stalls was fascinating—and also insightful as to the pitfalls of both approaches.

In the interest of transparency, I voted for the people I thought would best represent the ward I live in, and the mayor I thought would best represent Calgary given what I know about the City of Calgary.

Day one of advance voting in the Calgary municipal election, and I’m happy to report I did my civic duty by casting my ballot. This year on the vote bus, which has returned from a pandemic hiatus to provide a mobile advance poll for all Calgarians.

Class sizes, core subjects metro school boards, until the UCP stopped measuring in 2019.

I’ve covered dozens of protests at the provinces’s southern office at the McDougall Centre, but today’s teacher rally was by far the largest by a measure. Truly massive turnout for teachers to express their anger at the government.

Naheed Nenshi, leader of the Alberta NDP, is set to have a live discussion with Evan Li tonight on YouTube at 8pm.

Li was the high school student whom Bruce McAllister, ED for the Premier's Office said should have been assaulted for his views at Alberta Next.

Five days ago, an ICE agent shoved a woman asking questions about the detention of her husband.

Today they attacked two journalists.

We cannot accept or normalize what has now become routine violence at 26 Federal Plaza. It has no place in our city.

Exceedingly unlikely. Smith said they don't have a classroom body problem, they have a space problem and that it will take several years to fix.

Premier Smith acknowledges that maximum classroom sizes were not on the table in negotiations. That is something that I have heard from many teachers they want as part of the negotiations.

Smith said the government doesn't want caps for maximum flexibility.

The Alberta Government says they will redirect funding that would otherwise go towards teachers and educational grants for school boards during a strike to parents, saying that funding would be unused.

Not clear what would happen if a negotiated settlement included back pay, as is often the case.

Premier Smith says that her Executive Director Bruce McAllister's comments were just off colour, and that he has apologized for it and the matter is closed.

Says its common practice to cut people off at Alberta Next panels who aren't on page about talking about relations with Ottawa.

I have to say in all my years as a journalist, I've never heard a government employee say that a youth should be assaulted for speaking their mind.

At tonight’s “consultation”…

When a high school kid tried to raise concerns about the teachers strike, Bruce McAllister cut the kids mic and then suggested his parents should have beaten him more.

Listen to the clip yourself…

It’s…

Telling.

Covering the disability community die in at McDougall Centre this afternoon, and one of the harrowing stories is from an AISH recipient who was offered a MAID form to die rather than being offered provincial emergency housing transition support.

Heard from numerous teachers tonight that they'd rather quit than accept what the government bargaining is moving towards. So a deal may be reached, but it may come as a Pyrrhic victory.
