I just caught Pippin and Thumbelina cuddling for the first time today!
Earlier this week, I got a male fancy mouse (Pippin) to keep my female deer mouse (Thumbie) company. She'd been showing signs of stress, and I thought a friend would help.

I strive to be cozy and comfy. If I'm leaving my house, I have carefully weighed the expedition against watching anime and drinking hot cocoa in bed while being cuddled by my dog. That being the case, I rarely leave my house.

Thumbelina somehow escaped the bin today. Why? We have no idea. She's not even weened or thermoregulating and off she goes on an adventure. My husband found her after an hour of us both looking. She had fallen asleep in the center hole of one of my weight discs. Hopefully she'll be okay.

Oh no. Tommy, my male baby rescue mouse, just voluntarily crawled into my hand for the first time after eating, bruxed happily, then snuggled into my fingers for a nap. Peep the the way his head rests on his tiny paw.

Rescuing these mice have made me consider being an animal rehabber/ foster again. It truly is bringing me a lot of joy.

They survived the night and are just so cute. I know they are considered pests, but I can't help but treasure every little life. I can only strive to be a good steward of my land and guardian of what exists here.

Well, our latest yard project disrupted a nest, so I'm rescuing some baby mice now. Hopefully they survive. One has their eyes open already and will nibble on oats, and I'm hoping the other is close behind. Both have eaten some formula and been pottied. Not looking forward to sleeplessness.
