There is a not insignificant part of me that wishes he could call up the IL National Guard and sic them on ICE. Have a real armed force that's actually loyal to their oath and home state say, "okay, that's enough of that, we have actual training, sit the fuck down." *pops another gummy*

but I do think that’s part of why we can’t give an inch here. they’ll put air conditioning in Amazon warehouses if the robots need it but not for the safety and comfort of human workers. that’s the kind of shit we normalize if we get sucked into the inevitability arguments

He looks at you with this blank stare, daring you to tell him you tried to make sunshine on a stick in the freezer but the toothpicks never stayed up straight. He knows you won't say anything because you're embarrassed. You know he knows. He knows that you know that he knows. And yet, he just stands there, hankering for a hunk o' cheese like it isn't fucking impossible to get plastic wrap to stay taught on an ice cube tray.

You want to ask him for a wagon wheel, from his stacks of snacks, but you can't bring yourself to say the words, because now you, too, are hankering, hankering for the last hunk-o-cheese, and you both know you'll have to fight for it.

Couldn’t he call the bluff and call up the IL National Guard to defend the protesters against ICE and LEOs, who aren’t subject to posse comitatus? I’m probably naive, but I have more faith in the morals of the NG. It would be so dangerous, but things are so dire. If it’s a terrible idea, I apologize

I looked up the IL TRUST Act, thinking, "aren't local LEOs not supposed to assist ICE?" But it's specific to dealing with individual immigrants, not general to all-around fuckery. I maintain that the spirit of the law is being violated, if not the letter.

I just faxed @govpritzker.illinois.gov 's office about this, and I invite fellow Illinois residents to do the same. You can't ask the people to film federal agents who are violating Constitutional rights and then let IL State Police shove them around with batons for doing so.
