Julia Hartley-Brewer: Why is colonialism bad?

Me: “When Britain arrived in 1700s, India had 27% of global GDP. After 200 years of theft and millions starved to death, by 1947 India had 3% of global GDP, 90% living below the poverty line, a literacy rate of 17% and life expectancy of 27”

Accurate
Plenty of variables, but Farage remains a contender for PM. If so, what's the UK's international role? Airstrip One for a gangster state. Or we reject him, and resume being part of a rules-based Europe. This is the inescapable choice we now face, in shit circs (cos of Brexit, of Farage's making) 1/2

Christ on a bike this fucking guy.
Americans have empowered an honest to god evil villain.
Next stop on the War Tour:

Trump to Fox: “Claudia Sheinbaum is a good woman, but the cartels are running Mexico.

“She’s not running Mexico — the cartels are running Mexico.

“Something’s going to have to be done with Mexico.”

January 3, 2026 at 10:14 AM
Quite
European allies will not do anything to stop it because they are too hopelessly dependent on the rotting corpse that is currently the American empire. But long term, no one will ever trust us again and the election of Trump will be viewed as the suicide of the last global superpower.

Completely right.
Binary thinking deliberately misrepresents the beautiful complexity of..... everything.
It reduces every opinion down to agree or disagree, rather than, mmm 🤔 interesting.
I actually think that the biggest tell for future bigotry is whether or not ppl think binarily. If everything is only one or the other to you, the only logical conclusion becomes bigotry towards at least one group

Christ on a bike, I knew it must be bad but this is absolutely shameful.

They are all such terrible fragile people. That's why they're bullies.
And now picked up by the Telegraph. Coming soon, the Mail and Times and then, tomorrow, the Guardian.

How can anyone take this man baby and this administration seriously?
Utterly infantile and completely fragile, they deserve nothing but a sound mocking.
Trump’s aides demanded that FIFA’s made-up “peace prize” awarded to him be literally as big as the World Cup.

The White House gave FIFA a list of demands regarding the inaugural FIFA Peace Prize, which was invented by FIFA president Gianni Infantino to present to Trump.

Your economy tanks and your people revolt.
