there is no positive route forward for the United States without mass arrests and trials for DHS employees
You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today.

This could be you.

Stay furious. Keep protesting. Don’t back off the pressure.

Feels like my English degree should have come with a warning about wallpaper shopping.

The problem is that adverbs are like Christmas decorations: there’s a TIME and a PLACE and an Aristotelean proportion where on side it feels right and on the other is it now a THING.

New goal: #writing a story so unhinged that no one would ever accuse it of being AI, no matter how many m dashes and semicolons I use.

I wish I believed in myself the way my Libby shelf does.

Someone ping me when they invent an app where I can go from reading the #ebook to listening to the #audiobook by clicking the word. I like to read but I’ve also got chores to do.

Wishing nothing but happy dreams and a cool pillowcase to whomever shared the fact that Terry Pratchett’s daily #writing goal was 200 words, because that’s a goal I have managed to hit for an entire week now.

Quite by accident, I have discovered that the “Macarena” dance maps perfectly onto the Bluey song “Burger Dog”.

I reject any argument that says you can’t love books and sports.

The DRAMA.
The LORE.
The absolutely UNHINGED takes by people claiming to love it just as much as you do.

A good story is a good story is a good story.

Forget “death of the author”; I want to be one of the millennials making you want to KILL the author.

Extensive Easter eggs to my childhood trauma? ✅
Unnecessarily elaborate allusions to my favorites? ✅
Petty digs at random people? ✅

You will never escape me in my writing.

The ultimate irony of “enigmatic” is that there are a ton of people who have trouble explaining just what it means…but for the wrong reason.

Having the sad realization that one day, they’ll publish my obit (assuming that’s still a thing), and it’s going to be 99% jokes about how loud I am and how much I talk.

But, you know, glad my parents think ADHD is overdiagnosed or something.

My poor MIL, wondering if it’s okay to get my kids books with a potty training/sharing toys “agenda”, is not ready for an impromptu essay on whether literature necessitates a POV to qualify as such.

Plus, I’m not ready to argue “trying to prove you don’t need a POV is itself a POV” with modernists.

Question: What’s the best way to apologize to your TBR pile?

I’m reading a book so good that it wouldn’t be fair to even attempt another one for at least a few days.

Is there a line y’all use? “It’s not you; it’s me”?

Sometimes I wished I’d gone to grad school so I could make someone read a paper on how Kesha’s music is the distillation of white girl exuberance (which is frankly one of our better traits) and thus perfectly appropriate for a millennial cannonballing straight into the second half of their 30s.

Question: What do you do when you get to the point in plotting that you’ve accidentally damned yourself to hell? Asking for a friend.

Tackling weekend chores while jamming to the clubbing songs of the 2010s, because I have a Pavlovian impulse to move when I hear them and the frequent commands to drink are keeping me on track for water intake today.

Everyone is rightfully excited about Ralph Fiennes playing Snow in #SunriseontheReaping, but they’re all joking about him playing a second evil villain trying to kill teenagers.

Am I the only person cracking up that this is his second role as a Coriolanus??

“You’ll never use your English degree—“

I dare anyone to explain “He was once a wiener dog/Now he’s a burger dog” without a basic foundation in modernist and post-modernist critique.

I feel like most Austenites have one first love from her books and one they will, without hesitation, throw down for.

My first love? Pride and Prejudice.

But I will throw down for Emma anytime, anywhere. Jane was right, dangit.

Finally started Babel. As someone whose first nickname was “Blabbermouth”, my reaction to the Babblers appellation was…loaded. And given how Kuang can play emotions like a Rubik’s cube, I can tell I’m in for it.

But damn, I forgot how magical it feels to read something and go, “Oh, not just me?”

My bold take is that the Hunger Games series is Cormac McCarthy if he’d had the guts to truly ponder the horrors of the modern media engine.

So many images from #SunriseontheReaping joining the “dead baby landscaping” catalog in my head from reading McCarthy in college.
