Among the most important things right now, for those of us Americans who want to understand our world and our place in it, is to shift from understanding ourselves as citizens of a democracy to members of a captive, restive, rebellious public an autocrat is seeking to consolidate control over.

They say the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, & self-control, but last night I self-regulated and put myself to sleep by imagining I was kicking Stephen Miller and JD Vance in the face.

It is so hard to get through to people that before food stamps, kids starved. Before meat inspections, kids died. Before vaccines, kids died. You're choosing to kill children to save a buck & you refuse to see it because it's not real to you

The ‘American First’ crowd is awfully quiet about Trump’s pledge to build free housing for 2 million Palestinians in some random country they don’t want to go to that also doesn’t want them. I’m sure this will all work out fine and that’s what people thought they were voting for.

I am going to keep posting my corrective reminder: Stop saying "they can't do that" and start asking "how will they be stopped and who will stop them".

But then look to the states and look to the people to find out whether or not fascism will be stopped and who will be doing the stopping.

OMG the Trumpiest person in my own life adores that movie and says I remind them of her. Why do they love that movie and do they just not know many dark-haired women?
it's always sort of surreal when this makes him weirdly erudite for a moment, because it feels so out of character. like he once said AOC reminded him of Evita.
the thing about Trump's Kennedy Center fixation, beyond just pettiness, is that he actually really, really loves musical theatre. it's his one genuine passion in life, as far as I can tell, but he also doesn't have great taste, so get ready for a really big production of CATS.

Here's an album that got a lot of play in my childhood, back when I was big into cereal. (Maybe this is the band some people would want to see during a Super Bowl Halftime show. Could run it by them for approval.)
