We have to somehow shift the Democratic Party's default center of power away from the Senate. Power in a real resistance movement is never going to come from (or rally behind) legislators. It needs to come from executives. Governors, big city mayors, influential activists, etc.

The Insurrection Act is not "martial law." It doesn't displace civilian law, it doesn't suspend habeas corpus, it doesn't alter or suspend state and local government, and it doesn't make anything newly illegal. It allows using the military to enforce existing law, it doesn't change what the law is.

Senate Democrats absolutely have to shut the govt down to stop this ICE insanity in the Twin Cities. This is not sustainable & cannot be normalized. Any Democratic vote to provide money to the thugs who are brutalizing this community is a grave betrayal to the people here. Accountability can't wait.

Force is required to deal with this. Telling people to remain peaceful isn't adequate.
To de-escalate, Governor Walz should mobilize the Minnesota Army National Guard to keep federal agents away from residents. A leader who stands by while these attacks take place is no leader at all.

On 1/11/26, (ICE) and (CBP) in St. Paul, Minnesota, broke the window of an activist at a gas station. They then forcibly removed him from his car and abducted him while simultaneously firing pepper balls at other community members.
