Got to see Manic Street Preachers in conversation with author Keith Cameron at Brighton Dome on Thursday night. Good stuff.

Scotland on 110. There was a fault with the film, everything came back looking like someone dragged a pencil across the sky. Can’t say I’m disappointed.

How to make subminiature neg scans look their very best - rephotograph them off the computer screen on the thermal-printout kids’ camera..
A bunch of increasingly grainy and ill-defined photographs printed out on thermal receipt paper. Pictures are of rocks and sea, mountains, utility poles, bus shelters and some random close-ups of book pages that have nothing and everything to do with it all.

We spent the last weekend processing film in the bathroom. Minox subminiature spy film and some medium format. Haven’t done this myself in years..

Accidental defragged landscape
A glitched image of a field of dry yellowed grass, a line of purple mountains on the horizon, a slight glimpse of the domes of the Holcim cement plant, all defragged and glitched with jagged rainbows of coloured lines and squares where the scanner didn’t feed properly. A good/bad scan of a 35mm film negative.

A book, “Unsettling Landscapes, The Art of the Eerie” by Robert Macfarlane, Steve Marshall and Gill Clarke. The cover art is a painting: A road winding away from us through a flat field, lined by a row of lumpy pollarded trees, two broken gates in the field, a spade and a red jumper discarded at the edge of the road, and three clods of earth leading off down the way..

There’s a slot in the lens that takes these slides for different apertures, and the pocket for storing them in..

Finally had a chance to sit down with @iainsarjeant.bsky.social’s new book ‘An Uncertain Path’ and it’s wonderful, a really beautiful collection of work, the way the images work together is pure poetry.
