Absolutely loved talking to Nat about pinholes, time, sounds in the woods, nice places, and ill-thought out purchases of theramins. His field notes and replay for the show are now up on experimentaltrash.com

Oh yes, let those cat moments last as long as they can. Sounds perfect.

I reckon contact Apple and tell them the problem. You never know, they might send you a replacement. I’ve been lucky with them doing things out of warranty before with small things.

Bookmarking to come back and read this evening. I visited this beach last year, a stunning place, but although I looked I didn’t know where to find the shell line. I guess I need to go back.

Was that last year at Brixton? I was there then too…

Same! I had to do it too.
Brett Anderson of Suede being pretty photogenic in the stage lights.

Decaying Victorian grandeur, Mary Shelley, the sea all to yourself in winter... If you go, take the chain ferry across to Studland and it immediately gets wilder!

I was going to say Bournemouth too. You’ve got the airport and the whole of the Purbeck coast on your doorstep.

The second pair of pinholes from the Radio Telescope.

Understanding that exposure was steady at about 25 seconds allowed me to start fiddling about with bit of glass in front of the pinhole. More in ALT

I’d like to take photos that look like what the object does, or what the object sounds like.
The radio telescope seen from a bit further away.

Again, a 25 second exposure, but for the first 10 seconds I had a cheap concave lens stuck over the pinhole - hole. Then I removed it, so a good picture started to expose over the distorted picture. An in-camera double exposure.

In this case I also knocked the camera.

So the radio telescope is both there and not there in this photo. Its base is fading from view; the sky has a strange band of darkness; the white clouds bubble like comedy experiments. Closer to the radio telescope. Looking up, the composition including the gate to the compound, as well as the dish turned to the sounds of space.

But in the case I had glass chandelier droplet placed over the pinhole, which shatters the B&W image. 10 seconds of this, then I switched to a hole without the additional lens. So a proper pinhole, which has a faint echo of the telescope radiating outwards.

Again, it’s a double exposure. No post production on the photo.

It did when I read it the first time..

I think it's just right, getting the picture before the tide came in, that's the one!

Definitely alchemy. I can never figure out the maths on exposure times.. I check what the light meter says and then go with my gut anyway.

plus, the clouds look a bit like the ghost tentacles of a kraken

This is so nice.. I love how the boat is melting and blurring into the water. You always have such a beautiful atmosphere with these, but this light is particularly nice.

Got to see Manic Street Preachers in conversation with author Keith Cameron at Brighton Dome on Thursday night. Good stuff.
James Dean Bradfield (plus guitar) and Nicky Wire sat on stage with Keith Cameron. A big Resident Records sign hangs above them. The book. 168 Songs Of Hatred and Failure, A History of Manic Street Preachers by Keith Cameron. Signatures on a page.
