the islamophobic and antisemitic attacks ramping up in minneapolis are extremely disheartening. these attacks are unacceptable and we need to continue calling them out. this cannot become the new normal for residents. we are better than this.

anyway I shouldn't have to be yelling at the fucking Democratic party in my state to pull their heads out of their asses while the Supreme Court is hearing arguments about whether or not it's legal to psychologically (and sometimes physically!) torture people like me! What the fuck are we even doing

Can @dfl.org or Richard Carlbom please have someone moderate the SCC list serv?

Instead of important info about SCC meetings or other party business people seem to believe they have license to use this list like a group chat or personal journal for their musings. Fix it.

NEWS: In a case with national implications, @governorwalz.mn.gov's officials are approving Blackrock's takeover of one of the Midwest’s largest utilities.

Critics say the precedent-setting move paves the way for more Wall Street firms to buy utilities to further hike skyrocketing electricity rates.

Regulators just greenlit BlackRock’s acquisition of a Midwestern power company — the latest deal in the private equity giant’s spending spree on public infrastructure.

many of us are doing this work, unpaid, day and in and day out, because we care about our communities and believe this work is worth it in the pursuit of making things better. and too often this altruistic work is then taken advantage of by paid media who swoop in once they see a story has legs

be careful what information you put out here because vultures are everywhere. i can't share information here anymore, i'll have to wait until i can blog it. otherwise how it goes is you notice something, you collect info, you put pieces together, you share it all for free, and paid media swoops in

“Frey still felt the need to wave around his veto pen” is the perfect summation of our worse-than-useless mayor.

Another great letter by @elitalksmpls.bsky.social in today’s Strib
Budget critique ignored Frey's role
In reading Lilita Keire's commentary on the Minneapolis budget, I realized Mayor Jacob Frey's name was not at all mentioned ("The budget crisis: Why it happened and what we can do," Strib Voices, Sept. 26). Politics should be an exercise in collaboration and debate. Not a blame game where we set up arguments for the sole purpose of scoring political points against those we disagree with.

A simple search of "Minneapolis budget vote 2024" reveals that the 2025 proposed budget was actually vetoed by Frey after it passed the council with a 10-3 vote in favor. Not just a majority. But a veto-proof one. Frey still felt the need to wave around his veto pen. It is not lost on me that the three "no" votes to this budget were the three council members highlighted as individuals "who have the governmental experience to effectively balance a budget."

Keire seems to support of minority rule on the budget. That is not good governance, while also being agnostic toward the basic facts. Chastising funding for programs to assist our unhoused and immigrant neighbors as "ballooning" the budget, Keire ignores that the Minneapolis police budget has ballooned by $40 million since 2022. Not accounting for other misconduct payouts and PTSD claims also absorbed by the taxpayer.

I even share concerns about the ever-rising property taxes in Minneapolis, but responsibility is similarly misplaced. Property taxes have gone up 28% since 2019. All during Frey's tenure. He proposed the increase in the 2025 budget.

We should talk about our city's budget. Let's make sure to be honest about it.

Impressive how one political party can control the White House, the House, the Senate, and the Supreme Court, but not bear responsibility for whether the federal government functions. Neat trick.

the story of mariah samuels' murder is heartbreaking and enraging. she did everything we tell victims of domestic violence to do, and she was failed by MPD and not protected. it is strikingly similar to allison lussier's murder. this a pattern

just wait for the story to break
