🔉What dangers does X pose to our democracy? And should the government stop using it?

Good to hear yesterday from @sundersays.bsky.social and @petergeoghegan.bsky.social on the immense risk of X as it ignores legal obligations and its owner tries to influence UK politics.

Superb piece by @jamesbloodworth.bsky.social in this month's @bylinetimes.bsky.social mag: "Britain's Media Has Let Nigel Farage Reshape Political Journalism - Why?" This article alone was worth my annual sub to one of the very few news outlets still doing proper journalism

🟪 Nigel Farage is leading in UK wide polls, but not in Scotland. The prospect of Farage entering Downing Street with a massive majority is no longer a far-fetched sideshow; it may happen.

It melts my head that X is still used for official Government communications, and, catching up on today's news and the fact we have a foreign billionaire inciting violence on our streets, it's clearer than ever that this should end.

I raised this in Parliament last week 👇

Labour have long since lost the ability to say ‘this is morally wrong’ despite a succession of open goals.
The Labour response to Farage policy of leaving the Refugee & Humam Rights Convention should not be “he won’t deliver”.

It should be “this is not morally right” (not “British values” even).

Voters want to see authentic consistent leadership. Not debate the workability of cruelty.

Nigel Farage is in Scotland lecturing us about a migration problem that he helped create. The UK was part of the Dublin convention as an EU member that meant returns. That was abandoned. Reform would rather do deals with the Taliban than our closest neighbours in the rest of Europe.
