For ‘26 I have a very legitimate worry that the hyped up deportation regime built on a chaotic and unaccountable bureaucracy, will in some way end up abusing our visitors. I can imagine someone getting caught up in a DHS raid or snatched by ICE for idk, posting something the administration dislikes.

As someone who was in Russia during the ‘18 World Cup, I remember the effort Russia went through to entice visitors. They got rid of visa requirements for attendees and then, when the tournament was over, they extended that to entice them to stay longer.

And all I have to say is that “internationalist nationalism” is not a thing and will inevitably resort to the fractures that define it rather than the binds.
