Some painful, but valuable, insights in here for fellow Didion scholars and others who admire her work so deeply. Already this preview is making me rethink some aspects of her works that I have spent years studying, especially "Where I Was From." A must read.
In a file of notes addressed to her husband, John Dunne, Joan Didion described her sessions with her psychiatrist with the cool, forensic clarity she was known for. Read a selection of entries recently released from the writer’s archive.

In notes to her husband, John Gregory Dunne, the writer reflected on her sessions with the psychiatrist Roger MacKinnon.

Literally crying hearing how French women applaud Gisele Pelicot every day as she walks out of court. #r4today

Everywhere around the world women watch & applaud her bravery too. She stood up for all of us.

Because the shame has to switch sides.

As with all other health services, women and girls should be able to access safe and respectful abortion care, when they need it, without fear of harm, punishment or recrimination.

This is what's so baffling about so many suggestions for AI in the humanities classroom: they mistake the product for the point. Writing outlines and essays is important not because you need to make outlines and essays but because that's how you learn to think with/through complex ideas.
I'm sure many have said this before but I'm reading a student-facing document about how students might use AI in the classroom (if allowed) and one of the recs is: use AI to make an outline of your reading! But ISN'T MAKING THE OUTLINE how one actually learns?

Rereading Joan Didion, “you find her astringency relentless, undimmed by age,” Zadie Smith writes. “Maybe this is why it remains easier to look at pictures of Didion than to read her. The look is undoubtedly a vibe. But the reading is a dissection.”
