Right. Times of conflict are when the helpers do show up. Thinking of the creation of the Red Cross/Red Crescent in the 1860s.

And the creation of Doctors Without Borders in response to the forced starvation during the Biafra civil war in Nigeria.
With all this shaking & crumbling, I keep wondering what seeds will sprout from the fissures. I can't predict them, that's the beauty of them. But there will be new, good things that come up through the cracks. Some even radical. That will be the only way to move forward after all this.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.
