Higher education data person. Nerd. All opinions my own.
First year undergraduate Thermodynamics course. One day the lecturer walked in, wrote:

∆G = ∆H - T∆S

And said, "So that's Chemistry. Moving on".

Since that day it has been clear to me that everything is just Applied Physics.
And you know what chemistry is? Applied Physics. But I don't think it's necessary for Criminal Justice students to study Quantum theory, unless they really want to.

Been a month since I did any painting, apparently. Bit more progress on the Reivers this evening, at the House of Denna cafe in Woolwich.

Today I learned that bees evolved from wasps.

In hindsight, this seems obvious.

"In 1993, when I sat my Finals, just over 16.34 per cent got Firsts. In 2021, it was 36 per cent.

Have undergraduates got more than twice as clever in the last 30 years?

Oxford's decline and fall is no surprise
The University of Oxford's slipping standards don't just apply to those trying to win a place - but also to those sitting finals

Hi @theguardian.com. Maybe a small point, but the picture illustrating this story is Chemistry, although as we all know, it is just applied Physics.

Launched a personal website recently: so while I have space/ideas, thoughts on Greenwich-Kent merger news from yesterday:
1. how much is this a rerun of older federal universities?
2. what's happened to the poly/uni divide here?
3. nobody mentioned Crosland

Here's Avery Hill Training College, now part of Greenwich University

Avery Hill House was built by John Thomas North, who made his fortune mining sodium nitrate in Chile

I don't imagine he did much of the mining himself
