This work is happening after a tree fell into the trackway on October 15 near Union City Station and interrupted service for several hours.

Hayward Station will have only one platform open. All trains will depart from Platform 1 until 5 pm. There will be signage to direct riders to the open platform.

Service must be reduced to one track to provide crews with enough space to finish this essential work safely and as quickly as possible.

Trains will still slow down in the rain at a few select locations near the end of the lines.

Weather can also impact BART service and cause delays.

Even with these impacts, BART remains a much safer option to driving during bad weather.

BART will temporarily run trains at slower speeds in areas where the temperature dips below 36 degrees Fahrenheit causing frost and ice.

But it is a temporary condition as once a few trains run over the area, it heats up the rail enough to return to normal speeds.
January 7, 2026 at 6:12 PM
These two changes reduced wheel flats and allowed BART to run trains at normal speeds during the rain. Wheel flat spots occur from a wheel to rail sliding motion, instead of spinning.
