Good morning.

Word of the Day is as beautiful as it is underused. ‘Confelicity’ is finding joy in the happiness and success of others.

So nice to have an unelected asshole taking it upon himself to engage in knife-edge international diplomacy that affects everyone, months before his work husband actually has the authority to empower him to do so.

Imagine disassembling an entire power plant — hunks of metal so heavy they break cranes — and reassembling working components at a different power plant to keep it running.

That’s what it takes for Ukrainian power companies to keep the lights on this winter.

I have a lot of advice about Bluesky culture, ha!

But here's one: Don't put up with crap. Toxicity plagued the birdsite for numerous reasons, and here we do not tolerate it.

Tolerance is a contract. If they're breaking it, you don't have to do anything but BLOCK.

Most people have no idea TN and H1B visa holders can't earn any side income that would trigger a 1099. No paid class talks, no book deals, no capital gains from trading stocks, no honorariums, no flipping stuff from thrift stores by any measurable volume. And definitely no freelancing. Nothing.

Folks in academia, please think about the implications of these results. It means your ADHD students likely have trouble obtaining their medications (not to mention the current med shortage) and getting a diagnosis is NOT easy.
