Personal account of Prof Raywat Deonandan, PhD: Epidemiologist, award-winning educator, bestselling author, scourge of the ignorant & servant to a small child.
I used to think that AI model collapse was inevitable. No longer. The era of web-scraping to train models is ending. Now the limits are:
-compute costs
-energy
-regulation
-failure to make scaling profitable

Data provenance now key. So, I'm now slightly less afraid of the impending AI apocalypse.

There's a small but real possibility that Minnesota might save the world.

"ICE guys are pretty miserable. I don’t think morale is particularly high for them. They’re freezing, they’re getting shouted at. They can’t go anywhere without being tailed by 5 cars. They get out and immediately there's a crowd of 100 people shouting at them, blowing whistles as loud as they can."

US economy was humming along under Biden, yet so many people believed it was crappy. What do those same people think now?

Never underestimate the ability of people in large groups to be easily duped.
Its crazy how so many knew this BEFORE the election and just how many have finally started to see the light.

Quite the European day for X, eh?

Future days might not be great for some other platforms.

Phone's been ringing off the hook with media requests today. What happened? What did I miss? Aliens? Was it aliens?

I hope there's a way to assess the heat shield integrity once they return to near Earth. (The space shuttle used to use the robotic arm's camera to do so.) Even then, I wonder if there's too much delta-vee to do an orbital insertion and await transfer to a Dragon capsule for safer splash-down.

How dumb is the world? Decades ago, I used to get a full battery of STI tests every time I got into a new relationship. As a result, I was prohibited from donating blood because (wait for it) I GOT AN AIDS TEST.

Yes. I was deemed high risk because I took steps to ensure that I was low risk.

This might help some of you with your diets. If this doesn't put you off your lunch, nothing will.

Lynch, Bowie, McLachlan... a personal wet dream.
Co-writer Robert Engels just before the #FireWalkWithMe U.S. premiere: "Ten million people watched the series finale. If every one of those people buy a ticket, the film will be a hit."

There will come a time (possibly sooner rather than later) when some of these shitbags will be forced by economic, environmental or other circumstance to find refuge or solace in another country. And they will find it hard and trying. And they will wonder why everyone is so mean to them.

Only some kinds of freedom, I guess.

BTW I'm not flippant about this. While it would be great to castrate tech bros & kill social media, the real impact would be total global economic collapse, loss of almost all records & archives, failure of almost all transportation, supply chains & communication. Mass poverty & suffering. Not cool.

Dear Bill Maher, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld, Dave Chappelle, Andrew Schulz, Joe Rogan, etc.

The problem was never "cancel culture" on college campuses. It was always the threat of tyrannical censorship and retaliation from the actual government.

I hope you get it now.

Hector Cocho, who founded Latinos for Trump, has been deported.

Sad part is that if he's allowed back, he'll probably still offer his face to the leopards/
