I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

Oh great, flying the American Flag abroad has the same meaning as flying a Nazi flag in the US since the '30s.

Far-right parties in Belgium call for "antifa" bans.

The UK's Reform Party is adopting policy positions that are a “copy and paste” of Trump’s.

The American flag is a symbol for Brazil's far-right.

As Trump tears apart the US, experts worry that other countries may dismantle themselves too.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

Not signing isn't a veto. You're not wrong, but declining to sign a bill for 12 days means it becomes law. It wouldn't be the first time he doesn't want to sign his name to a bill that helps people for plausible deniability when he eventually runs for President.

The name "Senator Roger Marshall," along with everything about how the man looks, is directly from a B-movie released directly to Amazon Prime Video where the first name in the credits was on a TV show in the '90s and spent one day filming in exchange for half the budget.

Ruben Gallego on whether Trump is talking to Democrats:

“Look, the President clearly has some kind of dementia, so I think there's a he's probably talking to himself, or think he's talking to a Democrat, but I sincerely doubt that that's actually he's actually physically talking to a Democrat.“

Does the Texas National Guard hold their ADT at Golden Corral? How many kegs do they bring to weekend drills? I guess their PT doesn’t involve seeing their feet.

(Look, I’ve got about 100 extra pounds myself, but there were too many jokes for me to hold ALL of them back.)

Don’t think these Texas National Guard guys are going to be chasing any immigrants around Chicago on foot

To repeat, if he doesn't sign the pro-trans bills in five days they don't die, they become law. Don't demand he sign them, that's unnecessary, demand he not veto them. You don't have to RT me but for the love of god please tell people this so they stop getting the California process wrong.
bayareadata.press
Dude limited replies so I have to do it this way but Newsom doesn't have to sign the other bills, he just has to not veto them. California has a pocket approval rather than a pocket veto; any unsigned bill becomes law after 12 days.

He's still trash for not wanting to sign but he doesn't have to.
rincewind.run
Gavin Newsom fucking sucks, part MCXVII

he still has until the end of the week for the rest of the bills so unfortunately it’s time to suck it up, call his office, and politely ask this living hairpiece to do the bare minimum to protect the most vulnerable among us

That's about 25% more than the rumors for the new Bolt and a couple grand more than the Equinox, EV3, R3, C-HR BEV, and Ford's unnamed midsized pickup. For a car which they themselves admit is worse. Amazing.

BB King at 7, Muddy Waters at 12, Buddy Guy at 14, Robert Johnson at 19, no Ma Rainey, no Albert King, no Lead Belly, no T-Bone Walker. Can the US revoke England's blues license until they clean up their act?

Not to ignore the point about SB79, but if the plan is to prove cities are functioning well while the entire federal government is using outright lies and old photos and videos to claim otherwise, you're probably doomed. You can't win a debate when the other side has no problem just making stuff up!
clarajeffery.bsky.social
2/ @eleniforca.bsky.social's main point was that Democrats path to renewal is by proving that their cities and states function well. I agree! But then why is @gavinnewsom.bsky.social dragging his feet over signing SB79?

For a mere 5% of that I will shut up. I'll delete all my social media accounts, I'll ditch my iPhone and get a flip phone for emergencies, you'll never have to hear a single one of my thoughts or opinions ever again. Standing offer.

I understand that they gave somebody 150 million to be the new boss of CBS. I just want to say, if these people are ever looking to do more novel things with their money, for 150 million dollars I will write an album every day for a year. I'll do it, too. try me

Dad: I'm guessing you've heard of Bari Weiss?

Me: Ugh, yes.

Dad: Yeah, that's what I got from reading her Wikipedia page and half an a article from her web site.
bayareadata.press
My parents have watched KPIX news and CBS Evening News every night since the '80s and, after Googling Bari Weiss once, my dad is trying out other options. I'm not saying he's a normal septuagenarian but he's also not too far off from average among the non-brain-rotted so it gives me some hope.

It probably also doesn’t help that he lost last time so it was an easy sell to convince what’s left of him to go full Cesar. Last time he wanted to be popular so he did what he thought was popular, this time the Nazis and the Heritage Foundation are governing as if there won’t be another election.
