HAWLEY: Let's see the Trump chart. You don't think it's a little bit anomalous that Trump has so many more nationwide injunctions against him?

KATE SHAW: A very plausible explanation you have to consider is that he's engaged in much more lawless activity than other presidents

part of why Trump steamrolled the 2016 primaries is that (by being independent from the formal party) he was free to say this was backwards: hating immigrants is much less unpopular than cutting medicare and social security to pay for high-end tax cuts bsky.app/profile/jong...
one of the things people forget about the RNC's 2012 autopsy report that I think is worth keeping in mind today is that part of why its authors tagged immigration/social issues as the ground to give up is that they couldn't/wouldn't touch the party's unpopular economic priorities

This is how you become a writer: just pick one of the things that is deeply wrong with you. Make it a character. Now send it on a self-help journey or try to kill it. Now call it a book.

What's wild about the NYT's framing is that you substitute any other trend in place of "as the city dealt with an ongoing housing crisis and an influx of migrants".

For example, "as the country dealt with unprecedented inequality in which the top 10% of US families hoard 75% of the nation's wealth"
This might sound harsh but I think the people writing NYT headlines should be beaten to death. Why are you making this a migrant problem you fucking racist worm!
