I saw an episode of Grand Designs that took place on the Thames and the fluff interview at the start was at the exact spot we used to steal firewood & get drunk at as teenagers

Oh also one really funny addendum to this is that the ONLY remotely creative person on the boards of any of the connected events (Festival, Writer's Week, and Fringe) is a MAGICIAN

And as someone who lives in Adelaide it's really heartbreaking. The Festival is when this city truly comes alive, and now it's being wrecked. For...what, exactly?

The knockon effect is already estimated in the millions of dollars of economic damage from cancelled events - writers week has had basically all but ten authors drop out, and the Adelaide Festival has lost a lot of performances, with at least one entire day of events cancelled.

So in light of that it's hard to see the fiasco as anything other than the board acting out of spite to destroy her, and the Festival's, reputation.

There's also been a lot of finger pointing at the state Premier, who is accused of meddling in all this.
