“Ready…!” The participants of the annual Spooktacular Marathon lined up, humans and Beasties alike all clothed in costume, raring to prove they were the fastest runner. “Set…!” Just then, the Servitt in the middle shot past the starting line over to a nearby cluster of ball shrooms. They grabbed one, threw it into the air, and passionately set it to the referee. It bounced off his head loudly, and his face turned to a scowl. “You don’t even learn Set, Servitt,” he informed the Servitt, who grinned sheepishly.

They reached over to the table and grabbed an armful of ball shrooms, then placed one into each child’s bag. “What?!” objected one child. “We wanted candy! Not… fungus!” Celia put their hand on their hip. “How about you go find some Beasties who’re feeling lonely tonight, and play a quick match with them? Sometimes Beastieball is even more of a treat than candy.”

With a confident flourish of their knife, Jack put the finishing touch on the jack-o-lantern they were carving. Truly, a more fittingly-named creation could not exist. This jack-o-lantern wasn’t for them, though. They promptly gave it to Lioness, who had been watching the carving process eagerly. It wasn’t a perfect replacement for their lost mask, but it would do.
