Help me out, would Sonic Crossworlds be a pretty safe bet for a 10/11yo getting a PS5? Or, would Lego Party be a better option?
I already told the parents to get Astro bot, so I was thinking something with multiplayer for him and his younger sister.

This. Exactly this. Make it optional. That's all you need to do, instead of forcing on it on everyone.
If designers really feel like they should have side characters backseat players though, I'm gonna have to ask that you carve that stuff out and create a toggle for it in the difficulty options. One of the worst things about God of War Ragnarok.

Just FYI, you can turn off the black bars that appear whilst on horseback in Ghost of Yotei by pressing R3.
