Finally watching DEPECHE MODE: M and guys, when it hits Netflix, you need to watch it even if you're not a fan. A fascinating document of a band playing live, with a lot of introspection about Depeche Mode's themes and why they're so popular in Mexico. Gorgeously shot and edited.

You've heard of, loved, and maybe even worn Big Dog Shirts.

Since 1983, they've been a staple of dads on vacation, dads doing chores around the house, and dads in line at the hardware store.

However, it's time for the line to evolve for the 21st century. Please welcome...

I legitimately thought this was a thumbnail for a Please Don't Destroy sketch.

Charlie Huston's fast-paced, funny CAUGHT STEALING (recently made into the only Aranofsky movie I've enjoyed!) is $2 for e-readers today.

"We regret that, due to a legal dispute, 'Go West' has been edited out of the film."

They got sued by the wife of the deceased songwriter of "Go West" because of an interview done in 1994 where Neil Tennant said that the song was camp and he thought Chris Lowe was having a laugh when he played it.

Proving that Gen X is not a monolithic entity with shared knowledge, today I was at the allergists, where a woman who was maybe a year older than me asked about the book I was reading. I said it was a history of Factory in the UK, an important record label. She then asked "What's that?"

Like her adaptation of STAR TREK II, Vonda N. McIntyre's novelization of STAR TREK III provides depth and texture to a story you already know well.

Tony Daniel's SAVAGE TRADE features the TOS crew unraveling the mystery of an empty space station at the edge of a nebula. This one is really old-school Trek, in a good way.

As far as first contact between Vulcans and humans goes, this is undeniably as non-canonical as can be, but Margaret Wander Bonnano's STRANGERS FROM THE SKY is notable as being the first Trek novel my wife read, and she loved it.

One of a handful of STRANGE NEW WORLDS novel, James Swallow's TOWARD THE NIGHT features the Spock and Una following strange signals that lead to a mystery involving a lost Starfleet vessel and a dilemma that will shake the crew of the Enterprise to its core.

An original Section 31 novel, CONTROL is written by the franchise stalwart David Mack. Julian Bashir gets a chance at exposing and destroying the covert operations division of Starfleet, but at what cost?

Another @diane.dianeduane.com heater, SPOCK'S WORLD is a deeply readable history of Vulcan combined with a TOS-era political drama that I can't recommend enough. Some really good issues raised here, things I wish they'd tackled on-screen.

I've recommended THE WOUNDED SKY by @diane.dianeduane.com before; I'll recommended it again and again until you all meet K't'lk. This would get a remix for TNG's S1 episode "Where No One Has Gone Before," but the original is much richer.

DISCOUNT STAR TREK EBOOKS THREAD! All $2!

Before Trek ran them into the ground on TV, Peter David wrote this (now non-canonic) epic of one woman's plan to wipe out the Borg entirely. Thorny ethics, well-done action, and a TOS callback!
