Correction: These are the designs of my first tattoos

#福山雅治 #LeonardCohen
My inner forearms, both bearing fresh tattoos. The right arm has Leonard Cohen's Unified Heart symbol and a line from his song The Future: "Love's the only engine of survival." The left arm has a picture of one of the 500-year-old camphor trees that survived the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, with a line from Fukuyama Masaharu's song Kusunoki (Camphor Tree): 我が魂は 奪われはしない (my soul will never be taken away).

I didn't want to disturb him too much, so I didn't ask for a photo but he offered it himself. What a nice guy Kotoshoho is. Although I sometimes forget his name during basho :D
In this photo you can see my excitement, I hoped it was a little less visible ;)

Whoops, I forgot to add this London pic.
Three guesses as to where our rikishi are here?
On second thought, reduce it to one!

Unsubscribed from the Sumo in English feed for this reason 😕

Wish I'd been able to wander round central London looking for sumo wrestlers the past couple of days. At least I'll see them every day the rest of this week, if only from the Rausing Circle

Actually that might be a cheesecake parfait

This is seriously a beautiful photo.

(Sumo wrestlers Abi and Wakamotoharu in front of an Assyrian, or possibly Babylonian, relief in the British Museum. They are extending their arms to each other in imitation of the figures on the relief.)

With his best friend, Wakamotoharu. You'll remember the two of them created such distress for sumo elders when a young Abi posted on SMS a pic of a tied-and-bound (with electric tape) Wakamotoharu.
That prank cost ALL rikishi the privilege to post and text for years!

The suspended Shinto roof--an absolute must--has been installed.
The sacred nature of the sport is now symbolized and properly recognized. Let the games begin.

Our yokozunae on route to the Royal Albert Hall (to view the venue for the first time and witness its tranformation into a Tokyo sumo ring) when Onosato spots his likeness on a poster for the tournament!
Now, Hoshoryu is on the hunt for his!

#Sumo people, are there any plans for meeting up at the RAH?

"I never thought MY sex would be excluded from single sex spaces," walls etc., etc.

I recall that the EHRC’s draft guidance on single sex services, currently with ministers, expressly states that religious objections are a legitimate justification for single sex services…

Perhaps someone should tell Steve Reed?

"tell me something wild you think about books"

*a bold truth teller stands up and says the same thing we've all heard a thousand times before, but somehow more boring now than it was six months ago*

Ants are a vital part of your garden ecosystem and, in most cases, can be left alone without interference 🐜

If they begin to enter your home, try storing food in secure containers and spraying equal parts vinegar with water where they enter.
Butterfly Conservation's guide to gardening without pesticides: Ants. Graphic of a small pond and a frog. Text reads: 'If you can't live alongside ants, here's how to discourage them. Indoors: Spray equal parts vinegar and water where they enter. Outdoors: Encourage slow worms and frogs by creating wild habitats such as ponds.'

Apparently Peter Andre is now performing as a Frankie Valli tribute act. I don't know how to fit that information in my head.

Dress Rehearsal Rag by Leonard Cohen is set at "four o'clock in the afternoon," while Famous Blue Raincoat, a few songs later on the same album, begins "It's four in the morning." I imagine someone's written an essay about this

Mine: a lot of books that are “literature” are actually incredibly readable: breaking down the fear of canon is a (small) part of dismantling the class system.

it is more important to read books you actually enjoy reading than books that are Literature
