This is a lot of words to say you don’t care about equity and inclusion.

Support Bookish in Bendigo, official Bendigo Writers Festival bookseller who would have spent months stocking books for the event and have pulled out in solidarity. Call them for your next book order if you can, or even pay it forward for one of their customers.

Blowing up your small-town writers festival because your local university needs to crack down on free speech because there’s a genocide we can’t talk about is so utterly on-brand for Australian culture. Cowards and fools 3-deep at the canapés tray

A cinema with 8 screens in Melbourne is doing $5 tickets to all sessions for the next week as part of its birthday.

It's empty most of the time. Now, there are scores of sold out sessions.

What does this tell you about cinema ticket prices in Australia and ppl's interest in going to movies?

I wrote about how there's still such a communication divide between restaurants that purport to be "for everyone" and vegans/vegetarians www.eater.com/24319701/veg...
When the Restaurants ‘for Everyone’ Aren’t for Vegetarians
With restaurants trying to cater to the widest possible audience, why do so many still miss the mark with vegan and vegetarian food?

A funny story: a random dr happened to read this review, and contacted me to say "you don't know me but the symptoms you list may not be perimenopause and could be something more serious". They told me what they thought it might be so I followed it up and they were 100% right. FILM CRITICISM SAVES!
I rarely write online film crit any more but made an exception for The Substance, which is a documentary. If anyone under 50 tries to tell you its not "feminist" or not "reflective of women's lived experience", your wise old horror-nonna here has words to the contrary

The paper in book publishing has been an issue for a while (as detailed in this thread). Hard to see how Trump’s tariffs are anything but disastrous for the publishing industry.
Top three suppliers of paper to the US: Canada, China, Mexico.

This is a post about books.

not to sound like the absolute bore I am but it would be great to see more widespread rage—ie not just from NDIS participants, their loved ones, or NDIS providers—about Labor’s continued dismantling of NDIS supports, including music and art therapies. here’s a low-effort start: sign this petition ⬇️

Today I learned there are two esteemed Richard Dyers. RIP this one, who is not the one cited by every star studies scholar.
